Marc & Nora ROUND THE WORLD 2005/2006 - Join us!

From El Calafate we took a boat trip from Puerto Natales (in Chile) to Puerto Montt (in Chile as well).

The trip lasted 4 days and was good fun. We met lots of travellers from all over the world (salut Benoit and Geraldine, Katherine et Alexandre, Viktor y David, etc etc) and had a great time. The route is one of the most beautiful in Patagonia as the boat goes through the Patagonian fjords. The weather during this trip was unfortunately awful. It rained from day 1 until the end! Everything was foggy and misty, not much to see really.
We all knew that there will be a passage through the open sea and we were warned that sea sickness tablets would be helpful. Marc spent this 15 hours in bed as he felt pretty bad - I was ok, but the passage was so rough that you couldnt do anything.
The entire furniture of the bar collapsed several times, the microwave fell down, heavy sofas slid from one side of the boat to the other - it was in fact very unsafe!
And what did the crew prepare for dinner? Spaghetti bolognese! Getting the tray of food without falling over was aleady an achievement. But sitting down and eating (whilst holding the tray with one hand and holding on with your foot to the table) was another challenging task. My pasta just slid off the plate onto the floor. An entire table with 4 plates on it and 2 people sitting on their chairs fell over...you can imagine how rough the sea was and how huge the waves were...
...and the dessert? Jelly!

We saw some seals and dolphins which was great but unfortunately no orcas which are sometimes also sighted in this area. The entire boat was loaded with cows, those poor animals were stuffed in a truck - far too many inside, they couldnt even turn around or lay down as there were at least 2-3 times more cows than there should be in each truck.
The trucks with the cattle were on one of the uncovered decks, hence the poor cows were exposed to heavy winds and rain for 4 entire days! How awful! We all felt so sorry for them - especially during the heavy passage - their "mooing" was present 24/7! We are sure that some did not survive this journey! Every day when "carne" (meat) was served we thought that might be the 1st dead cow! We took some photos for evidence and will send it to WWF or Greenpeace! JUSTICE FOR THE COWS!
