Marc & Nora ROUND THE WORLD 2005/2006 - Join us!

Travel time: September 2005 - July 2006  |  by marc and nora L.

Australia - Down under: Eungella National Park

We stayed on night in Marlborough, camped on the Hotel Motel's carpark for 2 dollars! In the bar we met some nice people - Again. One english bloke who (again) invited us to stay in his place on our way down. the other guy was a 23year old Australian traffic sign holder, who, when marc asked him what he does for living, held a 19minutes monologue of his previous job experiences! my god - we both sat there smirking as we couldnt believe it and we didnt know what to do to make him shut up. luckily the english guy scott realised we were in trouble and came to our rescue. --> another night to remember!

and the funny thing: the next day when we drove to Mackay we saw the traffic sign holder on the street! he was really happy to see us driving by his own 'stop/go sign' - i think we made his day! here he is!

We got back on the A1 and drove up to Mackay before turning West into the Eungella National Park. This place was beautiful! We swam in to clear waters of the Finch Hatton gorge, spotted duck billed Platypus swimming in the wild, camped in the most amazing 'bush-camp' which was run by an old stoned hippie called Wazza and which had showers with THE most amazing view. You opened the door to the shower 'room' only to walk into a real life rain forest backdrop....it was literally a semi circle of wooden wall with a door which took you into the privacy of 'your own' rain forest shower room...unreal! Exposed to the elements or what?!

We literally walked through the clouds in what is the longest continuous stretch of sub-tropical rain forest in Australia and had a boozy night with the locals (And Katrina & Eleanor who we bumped into again at the fresh water pools by accident) in the village of Finch Hatton.

no risk no fun...the reward is such a nice pool as the one below..

It started with us just popping into the pub with the intention of picking up some carry out booze but ended with us spending 6 hours drinking beer and munching on Australian red claw (big shrimps) with some fantastic locals and eventually going round to their house for coffee the next day. how come? well, eleanor managed to sit on a polystyrine box which of course broke...inside were all these yummy prawns. as they couldnt be kept fresh anymore the only way out was to eat them! well done eleanor!!! it would have probably been safer (and cheaper) for the locals if eleonor had stayed in the 'pissed people spot'. wot is that? the bar had a metal frame on the outside and on one corner there was a big leather strap attached to it. so if u are so drunk that you cant stand straight just put this leather belt around you which prevents you from falling backwards. (see picture)

You really can have some of the best times when you least expect it! I wonder for how long this sleepy little pub remembers the night that the Italian Olive Oil importer (Me, yes we bullsh***ed a little) entered the pub accompanied by 3 blonde chicks (Nora, Kat & eleanor).....
