Cross Country Road Trip- USA

Travel time: August 2007  |  by Christina E.

Maine: Five Islands, Georgetown

8.12.07:

We woke up bright and early to find that Maine was eerie by night, but beautiful by day. After we persuaded the front desk to let us delay our check-out time, Jen and I were off to eat some delicious Maine lobster in Georgetown.

Since we knew we'd have a long drive after Maine (38 hours driving time) to Wyoming, we decided to stop by Budget Rentals and have them check our tire pressure, etc. The gentle and kindly older man really went out of his way and not only helped us check our tire pressure and fluids, but also drove us out to the nearest gas station. Talk about hospitality!

Jen and I each ordered a 1.5 lb soft shell lobster with a side of corn for $15 each. So very cheap and extremely delicious. We ate that lobster in its entirety, including the brains and guts.

These lobsters were so tender and sweet, none of that brine-tasting crap we get out here in California, and each bite was like a small taste of heaven. I guess the drive into Maine for the lobster is well worth it.

So despite the fact that we had just finished a lobster (each) in its entirety, we wanted more food. We decided on a bowl of steamers (clams). Except, the clams out here in Maine are gi-normous.

I'd definitely have to say Maine ranks up there in terms of hospitality and courteousness to tourists. This lady was so friendly she even let us hold the heaviest lobster of the bunch.
