Curly and Lina VS The World: Uruguay - Colonia
Colonia del Sacramento is only a 50 minute ferry ride across the River Plate from Buenos Aires. The old part of town is a gorgeous old cobbled-street Portuguese fortress which is UNESCO heritage listed. It bears the scars of many battles as the town was fought over by the Portuguese, Brazillinas, Guarani (native indians) and of course, the spanish who ended up with the place.
Beautiful sunsets if you can stand being near the river long enough to take photos. The mosquitoes were really terrible.
On our second day there we hired a buggy to do a bit of exploring. We were originally hoping to find a patch of river that we could go swimming in but the river was still gross when you got close to it and the mosiquitoes were a killer.
Soooooo, since it was hot and the mosquitoes were bad and we are girls and we REALLY wanted a swim, we found The Sheraton and asked if we could use their facilities. We ended up getting talked into the day package which offers lunch, 1 hour worth of massage treatments and full use of the indoor, outdoor pool and spa facilities. Ummmmm, very naughty but we couldn´t resist.
