Santiago - The final Chapter (for now)
Our time in Santiago is coming to a close. I have had such an incredible experience here reacquainting myself with Chilean culture and getting to know my family (again). Julius has been an incredibly patient boyfriend, the language barrier at times has made it hard for him. I´m a very lucky girl!
Here are the last of our photos from Santiago . . .
As a stroke of luck, my brother Leo and his family were also visiting Chile this summer. I don´t get to see them much in Australia as they live in Brisbane so it was extra special to meet up with them here in Santiago.
What a great looking family, hey? From left to right: Tio Memo, Little Leo, Lorena, Big Leo, Sandra, Joanna, Cono, Tia Mona and yours truly.
As part of the whole winding up thing, we have been trying to spend as much quality time with everyone. Below are some photos from a dinner that we went to with my Tia Gaby and her tribe.
Now, on an earlier post I labelled a food as being a parrilla and I have since found that I was in fact wrong . . .
So, the night after our meat fest with Tia Gaby and co. we went out to yet another Chilean restaurant. We ate pastel de choclo (which I think gave Julius and I some sort of poisoning) and I walked in on a woman on the toilet. Apart from these slightly distressing incidents, we had a lot of fun.
Jo, Curly and Bob finally arrived. Julius and I were feeling a little fragile after riding the porcelain bus the night before but still managed to muster up a welcoming party!
We threw a bit of a party to welcome the gringos and also as a bit of a farewell for our last weekend in Santiago. There was plenty of food, pisco sour and of course, heaps of music!
So, its chao for now to Santiago. Jo, Bobu, Curly, Julius and I (will have to come up with some sort of abbreviation)are off to Valparaiso then onward to the deep south of Chilean and Argentine Patagonia. HOW EXCITING! I have promised my family that I will make a detour back to Santiago after our South American adventures although it will have to be sans Julius who has work commitments.
So no more family shots for a while!
