Boating

When travelling in Northern Laos a little spot of boating is well in order. A boat the obvious choice for onward transportation.

Laos - the jewel of the Mekong. This slogan is to be found everywhere where tourism is being promoted. And so it is - Laos is indeed the jewel of the Mekong.

A little spot of boating is a marvellous idea. And so we went boating on the mighty Mekong. Sailing down the mighty Mekong in a Lao slow boat will cost 220.000 Kip for the entire journey from Huaey Xai to Luang Prabang stopping over night in Pakbeng.

The Mekong is a river that runs through Indochina. It is the world's 10th-longest river and the 7th-longest in Asia. Its estimated length is 4,909 km (3,050 miles). Laos lies almost entirely within the Lower Mekong Basin.

Off we went on or little slow boat, with our backpacks stuffed somewhere in the back down the Mekong. We had arrived and not only that. Travelling on such an extraordinary craft such as a Lao slow boat was a very unique idea and at a slow pace very enjoyable.
