Hoi An
Nov. 21st (Day 69) we left Hué for Hoi An at 8:30 or so. It was some 6 hours to Hoi An with a bit of a stop in Da Nang.
The beach at Da Nang wasn't too hospitable in this weather.
We had to look around a bit to find a GH even for $7 (yes, i consider this expensive now), then it was down to the business of getting a suit made. Something about this town just forces one to have clothes made. It's scary how many tailors there are.
We found one place that was recommended by one of our guidebooks in the cloth market. They had no clothes on display but at least we had a reliable recommendation. Really, it was all too easy: pick a style from a magazine, pick a fabric, get measured, come back tomorrow. Catherine ended up having a jacket (green corduroy!) and a shirt made, too. The weather continued to be grey and rainy, but sure enough my suit was ready for fitting the next day.
check out the beautifully moody shot catherine got of my suit fitting. thanks for smoking, smoking guy.
Nov. 23 (day 71!) we didn't manage to do much, though we did see the old city free of charge. It was completely abandoned, even the ticket booths, for some reason. Our night bus left at 6 p.m. and it rained most of the afternoon.
Some shots around town:
Exuberant child, Hoi An.
