I need to get out of here - London
Getting to London and a long night
After a sleepless night I got up at 5am in the morning to catch my train towards London.
The first train I took was the probably oldest train I've seen in ages in Germany, I felt like sitting in a shaker and every time the breakes were used I felt like this shaker would be in an earthquake. But I survived.
The next train was the ICE to Brussels which was really comfortable. I almost forgot how comfortable German trains are.
In Brussels it was time to bord the Eurostar the first time of my life. It was a procedure like on an airport. First you've had to get out of Belgium, means showing your passport (or IDcard for me), then all my bags were Xrayed before going over the English border and ending up in a place that looked like an airport terminal with shops and a huge waiting hall.
The Eurostar itself was a bit disappointing! It was old and uncomfortable - really funny thinking that the ICE was probably older than the Eurostar.
All of its sudden it got really really hot in our wagon and it turned out that the airconditioning was broken
Luckily they transfered some people to 1st class, me inclusive - but there again, 1st class in the Eurostar was not as comfortable as 2nd class in an ICE. Fair enough I'm a backpacker I don't need comfort.
Driving through the channel tunnel was less exciting than I thought it might be as it felt like a normal tunnel and nothing special about it.
Arriving in London I wanted to see platform 9 3/4 as I arrived next to Kings Cross anyway but I didn't find it, so I still had 2 1/2 hrs to kill until meeting Chris.
Most of this time I just sat on Picadilly Circus watching tourists walking past before I walked to Green Park and Buckingham Palace, back to Green Park and took the Underground to Canary Wharf where Chris is working.
We met and took the train to Greenwich where he's living, walked through Greenwich park, which is a hell of a nice park and up to the point where the prime timezone goes trough before going to the place he's living.
Greenwich seemed really really nice. Old, typical English houses, nice people. The last few times I've been to London I didn't see any of these places, only the inner city and I've to say: I do like London after this visit now.
Instead of having dinner as we wanted to we went out for a few pints of beer, a few too many but it was a great and long night!!! One of the best nights I've ever had in every single way! In the last pub we met another German girl who was traveling alone, Nadine from Hannover. She is a great girl and was really funny
The only sad thing about the night.
A bloke who wanted to take photos of us, dropped my camera and it broke. Sad but to be honest it didn't really destroy the evening. It was still a great night.
