Three feet above the North Sea

Travel time: June 2007  |  by Jörg Knorr

Heading on to the Nordfriesische Inseln

From Ehstensiel the way went on to the estuary of the river Elbe passing Büsum and then crossing to Neuwerk. Always through tideland which forces it´s rythm on every paddler. To go with the tide it sometimes becomes necessary to be in the kayak at 5:30 am. "Luckily the weather was with me." Equiped with GPS, seamaps, and tidemaps the hobby adventurer went his way. From Neuwerk he went on to Horumer Siel, passing Dorumer Neufeld. With this the estuary of the river Weser was passed too and the eastfrisian Islands lay ahead of Joerg Knorr.
